APAR status
Closed as program error.
Error description
The applyPTF.sh step does not specify MEMLIMIT=NOLIMIT. So, if the MEMLIMIT used (in this case, specifed by the IEFUSI exit) is to small, a native memory OOM may occur.
Local fix
Add MEMLIMIT=NOLIMIT in the JCL. ********************************************************* * Start the Multi-Product PTF Post-Installer * ********************************************************* APPLY EXEC PGM=BPXBATCH,REGION=0M,TIME=MAXIMUM,MEMLIMIT=NOLIMIT PARM='SH &ROOT./&ENV..HOME/bin/applyPTF.sh inline'
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server for z/OS V8.0 and V8.5. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Out of memory error occurs in post * * installer step when starting WebSphere * * Application Server for z/OS. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** The APPLY job step fails with an out of memory error when attempting to start WebSphere Application Server for z/OS. This error occurs when the applyPTF.sh script attempts to launch a JVM.
Problem conclusion
The template file that is used to create the WebSphere Application Server for z/OS PROCs that include the APPLY step (which invokes the multi-product PTF post installer) will be updated to specify MEMLIMIT=NOLIMIT on the EXEC statement for the APPLY step. APAR PI069067 is currently targeted for inclusion in Fix Pack 8.0.0.9 of WebSphere Application Server V8.0 and Fix Pack 8.5.5.2 of WebSphere Application Server V8.5.
