Error description

  • Third party security integration in Liberty server on z/OS.
With this new feature, the ThreadIdentityService interface can
now be implemented by Liberty embedders in their own features
to receive notification of user identity switches.

    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
An embedder of the WAS Liberty profile will be able
to provide an implementation of the ThreadIdentityService
interface. This will allow execution of third party security
context services after authentication when the user's identity
is asserted on the thread and then again when the thread's
identity switches back to the server's ID in order to provide
an audit trail or synchronize the security context for a third
    party environment.
The existing Sync to OS Thread ThreadIdentityService
implementation will be able to run alongside the one
provided by an embedder. There will be no need to specify the
    com.ibm.websphere.security.SyncToOSThread variable in the
deployment descriptor or the syncToOSThread attribute in
server.xml for the third party ThreadIdentityService to be
used, but it will be needed if SyncToOSThread support is
also used. This support will require appSecurity-1.0 or higher
in the feature list and will allow for multiple
ThreadIdentityService implementations to co-exist. The classes
implementing this service must be added to the OSGi service
registry and listed as providers of the
    ThreadIdentityService interface type.
With this new feature, the ThreadIdentityService interface can
now be implemented by Liberty embedders in their own features.
An embedder needs to provide an implementation of the
    com.ibm.wsspi.security.thread.ThreadIdentityService interface
in their bundle. Once an embedder adds their feature to the
server.xml and it is activated, their ThreadIdentityService
implementation will be active. User features might be placed in
    ${wlp.user.dir}/extension/lib/features or in any other
    defined user feature location.

Problem conclusion

  • The code was modified to allow third party implementation of
    the com.ibm.wsspi.security.thread.ThreadIdentityService
interface in order to receive notifications of thread identity
    switches.
