Error description
This APAR is to fix CIController job failure results in RESTARTABLE state not EXECUTION_FAILED, (and ClassCastException encountered on restart).
Local fix
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: Websphere Compute Grid Version 8 users who * * utilize Compute Intensive based batch * * applications * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: When a compute intensive based batch * * application throws an exception, an * * incorrect exit state of 'restartable' * * is assigned to the job. This causes a * * ClassCastException to be encountered * * if the job is submitted for a restart. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: To avoid a ClassCastException, do not * * attempt * * a restart, rather submit a new instance of * * the * * job in question. In general, compute * * intensive * * based batch applications are not intended * * to * * be restartable. * **************************************************************** Because of incorrect final job state handling after an application exception is raised, a compute intensive based batch job is placed in 'restartable' state. The correct state should be execution_failed.
Problem conclusion
The code was modified to correctly place a compute intensive based batch job in execution_failed state should a batch application throw an exception. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fixpack 8.0.0.4.
