Error description

Error in the WAS application class loaders' handling of
simultaneous loads of classes contained in isolated shared
libraries associated with multiple applications.

Local fix

Use a non-isolated shared library and associate it with a
PARENT_LAST class loader defined on the server.

WebSphere Application Server 7+ includes the option to define
isolated shared libraries, which can be associated with
multiple applications or modules.  In this configuration, a
separate class loader is used for that library, and
application or module class loaders associated with the
library call that loader to perform class loads.  Because a
nonstandard delegation model was in place, the class load was
made without the usual ClassLoader.loadClass synchronization
in place, so it was possible for simultaneous loads of the
class to occur within that loader, triggering duplicate
defineClass calls, for which the JVM would throw a
LinkageError.

Problem conclusion

Synchronization was added to protect the class loader from
duplicating defineClass calls.

APAR PI15819 is currently targeted for inclusion in Fix Packs
7.0.0.35, 8.0.0.10, and 8.5.5.4 of WebSphere Application Server.
