Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Administrative programs invoked from * * a profile may fail after updating * * WebSphere Application Server. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** After updating Websphere Application Server the OSGi bundle cache within each profile is reset the first time a server in that profile is started. If an administrative program is invoked within a profile, before a server in that profile is started the first time after an update, the administrative program may fail to launch due to an obsolete OSGi bundle cache. This condition for failure also applies to post-install configuration actions, which transparently invoke administrative programs when a server starts the first time after an update. If a configuration action invokes an administrative program in a profile before a server process has started in that profile, then this problem may occur. The error typically manifests as an OSGI class loading or file I/O error. Here is example of a failure recorded in the configuration action logs: <record> <date>2014-02-11T10:05:40</date> <millis>1392185140861</millis> <sequence>7604</sequence> <logger>com.ibm.ws.install.configmanager.actionengine.ant.utils. ANTLogToCmtLogAdapter</logger> <level>WARNING</level> <class>com.ibm.ws.install.configmanager.actionengine.ant.utils.A NTLogToCmtLogAdapter</class> <method>messageLogged</method> <thread>3</thread> <message>Caused by: java.io.FileNotFoundException: C:\8550\profiles\Dmgr01\configuration\org.eclipse.osgi\bundles\3 56\1\.cp\lib\tyto.jar (The system cannot find the path specified.)</message> Note that OSGi errors are written to error logs within three logical configuration area locations. <WAS_HOME>/configuration <PROFILE_HOME>/configuration <PROFILE_HOME>/servers/<SERVER>/configuration OSGi error logs for administrative programs invoked from a profile are written to directory <PROFILE_HOME>/configuration.
Problem conclusion
Apply APAR PI19344 to enable administrative programs to detect the profile-specific OSGi bundle cache is obsolete and to reset it after an update. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix packs 8.5.5.3 and 8.0.0.11.
