APAR status

Error description

  • When creating a new datasource, the following exception occurs
    in the administrative console during the 'Create new JDBC
    provider' step:
    
    [ServletException
    in:/com.ibm.ws.console.resources.database/JDBCProviderTemplate.j
    sp] Define tag cannot set a null value'
    
    This exception prevents the underlying error from appearing:
    
    The provider type you have chosen is not supported by the
    current node version. Choose a different provider type.
    

Local fix

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: An exception is thrown when trying to   *
    *                      display an error concerning an          *
    *                      invalid provider type for a JDBC        *
    *                      provider.                               *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    You are not able to see the error that keeps you from
    understanding why the configuration is failing.  The error
    needs to be displayed so another selection can be made.
    

Problem conclusion

  • We now set the error correctly so that a parameter is passed
    where expected and a null pointer exception is not thrown.
    
    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
    fix packs 8.0.0.10 and 8.5.5.4.  Please refer to the
