Error description

  • A NullPointerException occurs in
    c.i.osgi.jndi.fep.JNDIEnvironmentAugmenter.augmentEnvironment().
This causes a naming operation to fail to find an existing
    element.

    An example stack trace is:

Local fix

  • As a workaround the customer could specify a non-null (but
empty) Hashtable. The Hashtable comes from the
    LazySearchEnumerationImpl

    ****************************************************************
    Method invocations on the
    org.apache.aries.jndi.OSGiObjectFactoryBuilder class passing in
a null environment Hashtable result in a NullPointerException
    generated by the
    com.ibm.osgi.jndi.fep.JNDIEnvironmentAugmenter.augmentEnvironmen
    t method.

Problem conclusion

  • The Apache Aries environment augmenter invoker was changed to
always set an empty environment in the case where a null
environment is passed in. This avoids the NullPointerException.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix pack 8.5.5.4. Please refer to the Recommended Updates
