Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application *
    * Server who use the full profile's OpenID *
    * Connect Relying Party (RP) to authenticate *
    * with the Liberty profile's OpenID Connect *
    *                  provider (OP).                              *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Authentication fails when the full *
    *                      profile's RP tries to authenticate      *
    * with the Liberty profile's OP using *
    *                      access token.                           *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    The full profile's RP was expecting the audience claim (aud)
    from the Liberty profile's introspect endpoint, but it did not
    receive the aud claim in the access token. Since the RP could
    not validate the expected aud claim, a RelyingPartyException
    was thrown.

Problem conclusion

  • The full profile's RP code was modified to not expect the
    audience claim in the access token received from the Liberty
    profile's OpenID Connect provider. The aud claim is not used
    by the RP for authentication.
