Error description

  • During the post migration stage from V7.0.0.x to V8.5.5.3,
    Several applications fail with the following error message.

    ADMA0251E: [WAR] module version [3.0] is not supported on
    version [7] nodes [xxxxxxx]

    The web.xml from the application has the WEB 3.0 version hard
    coded and the V8.5.5. migration performs the edit checking
    on the Web version. Since Web 3.0 is not supported in V7.0,
    the deployment of the application failed.

    In a V7.0 environment, the deployment didn't do the version
    checking .

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Applications which used to deploy in *
    * an older release will not deploy in *
    *                      V8.0 or V8.5.5 if the web.xml is        *
    *                      marked with version 3.0.                *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:  The web.xml 3.0 was not supported in a      *
    * prior release, the xml should be updated *
    * with the appropriate version for the older *
    *                  release. v7.0=web 2.5  v6.1=web 2.4         *
    ****************************************************************
    Prior releases of WebSphere Application Server did not
    validate higher level versions of the web.xml file. Deploying
    an application, which contains a web.xml of version 3.0,
    during the migration of the deployment manager checks what
    releases the nodes are running and whether they support that
    level of web.xml. If they do not the deployment fails.

Problem conclusion

  • Similar to what was done for v6.1 and web.xml v2.5 when
    migrating to v7 or v8, the migration tooling will adjust the
    version of the web.xml files to the appropriate version level
    support by the old release.

    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
    fix packs 8.0.0.11 and 8.5.5.5. Please refer to the
