When stopping a WebSphere "Generic Server", a defunct process
might remain in the system process list.

Generic server processes are launched from the node agent
parent process.  When a process terminates it might stay in a
"defunct" state in the system process list until the parent
process terminates or retrieves it's exit status. The
existence of a defunct process in the system process list is
not necessarily harmful, but might consume some system
resources.

Problem conclusion

A monitor thread is added to check the status of Generic Server
processes so they will not linger as defunct processes.  It
can take up to 5 minutes for such a defunct process to clear
from the process list.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix packs 7.0.0.37, 8.0.0.11 and 8.5.5.5  Please refer to the
