  The server will not start if the install directory contains a
  plus sign.
  

Problem conclusion

• The kernel located the install directory by decoding a code
  source location in order to convert it to a file path, but the
  plus sign is not encoded in a code source location, so it was
  incorrectly decoded as a space.  The kernel has been changed to
  convert the code source location to a URI before converting it
  to a file path.
  
  The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix
  pack 8.5.5.4.  Please refer to the Recommended Updates page for
