    * Server using Intelligent Management (IM) *

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Memory growth of the daemon process *
    * due to process aging, causes excess *
    *                      consumption of memory.                  *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    Intelligent Management enabled WebSphere Plugin may show
    memory growth over time. Limit the aging by capping the
    number of IM configuration updates. This is similar to the
    Apache Http server directive MaxRequestsPerChild. Once the
    limit is reached the daemon process will restart
    transparently.

Problem conclusion

  • Intelligent Management Enabled WebSphere Plug-in was changed
    to allow the daemon process to refresh at an interval set via
    custom property "MaxRequestsPerDaemon".

    The new custom property "MaxRequestsPerDaemon" is set via the
    adminstrative  console.
    Navigate to Middleware servers > webserverA > Intelligent
    Management > Intelligent management plug-in properties.

    Create a new property with name "MaxRequestsPerDaemon" and an
    integer value. This integer value is an estimate of the
    number of management requests per day x number of days for the
    intended daemon lifetime. For example, if on average the
    number of management actions on an average day is 325 and 7
    days is the desired lifetime for the daemon; the value
    is 2275 = 7 * 325. Be aware that the default timeout for idle
    management requests is 5 minutes. This means that if there
    are no servers stopping or any other management activity the
    lower limit for a daily request count is 288.

    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
    fix pack 8.5.5.9. Please refer to the Recommended Updates
