Error description

  • When "Start components as needed" is enabled in deployment
    manager and you enable NCSA access logging, it will not
    generate the access and error logs
    

Local fix

  • Turn off "Start components as needed"
    

Problem summary

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The NCSA access logging will not        *

    The NCSA access logging will not start on a Deployment Manager
    if the "Start components as needed" setting is enabled.
    This is due to the logging service not being started by any
    component.
    

Problem conclusion

  • The WebSphere Application Server Runtime bundle was modified
    to start the logging service dependency with the Channel
    Framework.
    
    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
    fix pack 8.5.5.10.  Please refer to the Recommended Updates
    page for delivery information:
