Error description
When both CDI 1.2 and Bean Validation 1.1 features are enabled, the Liberty server may encounter a java.lang.OutOfMemoryError. Analysis of a heap dump will show a very large number of org.apache.bval.cdi.BValExtension$Releasable objects present.

Analysis of a heap dump will show a very large number of org.apache.bval.cdi.BValExtension$Releasable objects present.
Problem conclusion
This memory leak was due to the wrong Bean Validation object factory intermittently being invoked when CDI 1.2 and Bean Validation were both enabled. The Bean Validation runtime code has been updated to correctly detect when to use its CDI enabled object factory. This ensures that CDI enabled managed objects are properly managed and released when no longer needed by the Bean Validation object factory. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix pack 8.5.5.9.
