    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    Any web application which has a servlet annotated with
    @WebServlet("") or has empty servlet mapping in the web
    deployment descriptor will cause a
    StringIndexOutOfBoundsException to be thrown upon the start of
    the application.

Problem conclusion

  • This case was added to the Java Servlet Specification 3.0 -
    that is, the empty string ("") is a special URL pattern that
    exactly maps to the application's context root.

    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
    fix pack 9.0.0.1. Please refer to the Recommended Updates
