    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    Upload of large file to WebSphere Application Server on AIX
    fails with java.net.SocketException: Invalid argument

Problem conclusion

  • The file transfer client reuses a connection repeatedly, which
    can cause a buffer exhaustion in the server-side AIX TCP-IP
    stack, resulting in the server side resetting the connection
    and returning the above exception.

    The client is updated to close the connection occasionally so
    the problem no longer occurs.

    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
    fix packs 7.0.0.43, 8.0.0.13, 8.5.5.11 and 9.0.0.2  Please
    refer to the Recommended Updates page for delivery information:
    http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=180&uid=swg27004980

Temporary fix

  • Install or update the application from the same host that
    the server process resides on. In this case, the file is
    copied directly and the https upload process is not used.
