Error description

  • Steps to copy business objects may encounter high CPU
    utilization, with
    collected thread dumps showing calls through EcoreUtil.copy, for
    example, as shown below:

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Service integration bus (SIB) and/or *
    * Business Object operations can see *

    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    When performing application operations which use SIB or
    Business Object functionality, high CPU usage can be seen in
    method "copy" of class "org.eclipse.emf.ecore.util.EcoreUtil",
    invoked from method "copy" from class
    "com.ibm.ws.bo.service.BOCopyImpl".
    A collected thread dump from the application server process
    will show a stack similar to the following:
    WeakHashMap.get(Object)Object+35 (line 699)
    org.eclipse.emf.ecore.util.FeatureMapUtil$BasicValidator$Cache.g
    et(org.eclipse.emf.ecore.EStructuralFeature)Boolean [compiled]
    +3 (line 2714)
    org.eclipse.emf.ecore.util.FeatureMapUtil$BasicValidator.isValid
    (org.eclipse.emf.ecore.EStructuralFeature)void+16 (line 2886)
    org.eclipse.emf.ecore.util.BasicFeatureMap.add(Object)void+95
    (line 954)
    org.eclipse.emf.ecore.util.EcoreUtil$Copier.copyReferences()void
    [compiled] +388 (line 1255)
    org.eclipse.emf.ecore.util.EcoreUtil.copy(org.eclipse.emf.ecore.
    EObject)org.eclipse.emf.ecore.EObject [compiled] +16 (line 710)
    com.ibm.ws.bo.service.BOCopyImpl.copy(commonj.sdo.DataObject)com
    monj.sdo.DataObject+36 (line 139)
    com.ibm.ws.bo.delegate.BOCopyDelegate.copy(commonj.sdo.DataObjec
    t)commonj.sdo.DataObject [compiled] +13 (line 107)
    com.ibm.ws.sibx.smobo.util.BOHelper.copy(commonj.sdo.DataObject)
    commonj.sdo.DataObject+7 (line 167)
    com.ibm.ws.sibx.smobo.impl.ServiceMessageObjectImpl.clone()com.i
    bm.websphere.sibx.smobo.ServiceMessageObject+59 (line 3652)
    com.ibm.ws.sibx.scax.mediation.engine.SIBXMessageCloner.cloneMes
    sage(commonj.sdo.DataObject)commonj.sdo.DataObject+39 (line
    120)
    com.ibm.ws.sibx.scax.mediation.engine.JavaMediationPrimitive.set
    TerminalFired(com.ibm.ws.sibx.scax.mediation.engine.TerminalFire
    dEvent)void+139 (line 2202)
    For this problem, a collected thread dump must show the call
    through class ECoreUtil.

Problem conclusion

  • The problem occurs because the step of copying Business
    Objects, which is implemented by class "EcoreUtil", performs
    validation of the copied objects. The validation step is
    expensive and is unnecessary because validation has already
    been performed on the Business Object which is being copied.

    The problem is resolved by a code update which skips the
    validation step when copying Business Objects.

    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
    fix pack versions 7.0.0.43, 8.0.0.13, 8.5.5.12, and
    9.0.0.3. Please refer to the Recommended Updates
