PI66193: MEMORY LEAK IN JPA PERSISTENCE PROVIDER

Error description

A memory leak can occur in the WebSphere Application Server
v8.5.5 JPA provider implementation:

- 33 instances of "com.ibm.ws.jpa.management.JPAPUnitInfo",
loaded by "com.ibm.ws.runtime" occupy 155,428,889 (28.76%)
bytes.

Heap dump analysis has shown that approximately 25 of 33
persistence units hold a reference to a temporary class loader
which consumes about 5MB of memory. As a consequence,
approximately 125MB of memory are leaked.

The problem occurs with the WebSphere Application Server
default provider implementation
(com.ibm.websphere.persistence.PersistenceProviderImpl) as well
as with OpenJPA's default provider implementation
(org.apache.openjpa.persistence.PersistenceProviderImpl).

Setting exclude-unlisted-classes to true has no effect.

The JPA integration runtime created excessive copies of the
application classloader for persistence unit processing.

Problem conclusion

A single copy of the application classloader is now utilized
to service temporary classloader needs by a JPA persistence
provider implementation.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix packs 8.5.5.12 and 9.0.0.4.  Please refer to the
