APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • By default all configuration variables undergo path
    normalization so that they are valid file locations. This
    can cause problems with configuration variables that use
    double slash characters. For example, a JDBC URL stored in a
    configuration variable might be modified in a way that makes
    it invalid.

    ****************************************************************
    By default all configuration variables undergo path
    normalization so that they are valid file locations. This can
    cause problems with configuration variables that use double
    slash characters. For example, a JDBC URL stored in a
    configuration variable might be modified in a way that makes it
    invalid.

Problem conclusion

  • Variable values will no longer be normalized automatically
    unless they are referenced in an attribute that is expected to
    be a file or directory path.

    This is unlikely to cause problems for existing configurations,
    but if you run into issues you can either modify the variable
    value in your configuration or use the resolveString method on
    the com.ibm.wsspi.kernel.service.location.WsLocationAdmin SPI to
    normalize the value.

    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix
    pack 16.0.0.3. Please refer to the Recommended Updates page for
    delivery information:

Temporary fix

  • Prior to this fix, the problem can be worked around by
    separating the variable into two parts. For example, the
    variable:

    jdbcVariable=jdbc:oracle:thin:@//myHost:1521/myDB

    could be split into two parts like this:
    jdbcFirstPart=jdbc:oracle:thin:@
    jdbcSecondPart=myHost:1521/myDB

    and referenced in the configuration this way:

    <dataSource>
       <properties.oracle
    url="${jdbcFirstPart}//${jdbcSecondPart}"/>
    </dataSource>
