Error description

  • Enterprise JEE applications consist of a set of EARs that are
    deployed into WebSphere Application Servers. Multiple EARs are
    deployed into one server. Most EARs access a directory that is
    a NFS 3 file system mounted to
    /usr/data/mydata.
    Java 2 Security is activated and used. All EARs contain a
    was.policy file that includes the following permissions:
    grant codeBase "file:${application}" {

      permission java.io.FilePermission "${/}PATH${/}-
    ", "read,write,execute,delete";

    }
    When starting a server, we sporadically experience the error
    SECJ0314W: Current Java 2 Security policy reported a potential
    violation of Java 2 Security Permission... java.security.
    AccessControlException: Access denied ("java.io.FilePermission"
    "PATH" "read") during startup.

Local fix

  • The problem occurs sporadically and randomly across different
    EARs. Our solution is to restart the affected server until all
    EAR modules started without errors.

    We experienced the problem with WebSphere 7.0.0.31 and 8.5.5.7

    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    Java 2 Security permissions may be configured to allow access
    to a resource, yet the access is not allowed. A
    java.security.AccessControlException occurs. Subsequent
    attempts to access the same resource may be successful.
