Error description

  • In Liberty Profile v16.0.0.4, if a user manually sets
    Plug-in property ESIEnable to false in the plugin-cfg.xml,
    the changes are overridden with the next plug-in
    regeneration with the default value.

    Currently, Liberty does not have the capability for the four
    ESI Plug-in properties to be changed from the following
    defaults:

    <Property Name="ESIEnable" Value="true"/>
    <Property Name="ESIMaxCacheSize" Value="1024"/>
    <Property Name="ESIInvalidationMonitor" Value="false"/>
    <Property Name="ESIEnableToPassCookies" Value="false"/>

    A fix is required to allow the plug-in properties to be
    changed in Liberty so that the plug-in regeneration will
    persist the changes to the plugin-cfg.xml file.

    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    The server does not allow you to update the four ESI Plug-in
    properties found in the plugin-cfg.xml. The following are the
    default values:

    Property Name="ESIEnable" Value="true"
    Property Name="ESIMaxCacheSize" Value="1024"
    Property Name="ESIInvalidationMonitor" Value="false"
    Property Name="ESIEnableToPassCookies" Value="false"

Problem conclusion

  • The capability to override the default ESI plugin values has
    been added.
    To get the new behavior, please set the properties in the
    pluginConfiguration stanza in server.xml.

    For example:

    	    <pluginConfiguration ESIEnable="false"/>

    Or, multiple properties can be set within the same stanza. Note
    the below are just example values which differ from the default
    values:

    	    <pluginConfiguration ESIEnable="false"
                             ESIMaxCacheSize="500"
                             ESIInvalidationMonitor="true"
                             ESIEnableToPassCookies="true"/>

    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix
    pack 17.0.0.2. Please refer to the Recommended Updates page for
