APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When using CDI to inject a logger class into JSR-352 batch
classes and implementing the JobListener interface and
injecting the logger, a NullPointerException occurs. The
same injection works with batchlets and with chunked steps.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: NullPointerException observed when *
    * batch JobListener is injected with *
    * batch contexts or properties. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
The object instances backing the batch context/properties
injection were stored with the help of a ThreadLocal. For
JobListener injection, this variable was populated on the wrong
thread, (on the thread on which the job is started, instead of
to the thread on which the job executes). This led to missing
backing objects upon injection, leading to a
    NullPointerException.

Problem conclusion

  • Injection objects were populated on the correct thread to back
batch context and property injection appropriately.
