APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • If a Liberty server is started using a PROC, and the MSGLOG
DD is provided on that PROC, the size of the Java heap may
grow over time. When the maximum size of the Java heap is
reached, a java/lang/OutOfMemoryError may be thrown.

    ****************************************************************
If a Liberty server is started using a PROC, and the MSGLOG DD
is provided on that PROC, the size of the Java heap may grow
over time. When the maximum size of the Java heap is reached, a
java/lang/OutOfMemoryError may be thrown. Each message that is
written to the MSGLOG DD must be converted from its original
ASCII codepage to EBCDIC. The results of this codepage
conversion are being cached, and the cached entries are never
removed. Since each message written to the MSGLOG DD is unique,
there is no need to cache the result of the ASCII to EBCDIC
    conversion.

Problem conclusion

  • Code was added to prevent the result of ASCII to EBCDIC
conversion of messages from being cached.
