APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Currently if desired to set attributes like TTL or priority on a
cache entry using the DistributedMap interface the code must
call a PUT method which requires a sharingPolicy to be passed.

The current sharingPolicy settings are EntryInfo.NOT_SHARED,
    EntryInfo.SHARED_PUSH, and EntryInfo.SHARED_PUSH_PULL.

This means that if a user decides to change the sharing policy
on a cache instance this would also require a application code
    change.

Local fix

  • Use the current sharing policy settings

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application *
    * Server using a DistributedMap put method *
    * with the sharing policy parameter. *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Changing the default sharing policy *
    * for the cache instance may require *
    * code changes to the application. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
Most parameters on the DistributedMap put method have a
default value that indicate the cache instance's default
value should be assigned to the cache entry. The sharing
policy does not and when the cache instance's sharing policy
is modified the applications may need to be modified to
    specify the new sharing policy.

Problem conclusion

  • The constant EntryInfo.SHARED_DEFAULT is being introduced.
When specified as the sharing policy parameter on a
DistributedMap put method the cache instance's global sharing
policy will be assigned to the cache entry.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
    fix pack 7.0.0.45, 8.0.0.15, 8.5.5.13, 9.0.0.6. Please refer
