Error description

  • ibmproxy is down by SIGSEGV. Caching Proxy on AIX crashes at
    midnight when the Midnight directive is set to archive.so.

Local fix

  • disable archive.so fully by commenting out the following line
    in their /etc/ibmproxy.conf:
    #Midnight /usr/lib/archive.so:begin

Problem summary

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Caching Proxy crashes at midnight on *

    *                      during log rotation.                    *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    With APAR PI76339, Caching Proxy changed to a different module
    loading system. The new module loading system was unable to the
    archive module which is used by the default Caching Proxy
    configuration to perform log rotation at midnight. This results
    in Caching Proxy on AIX crashing due to a segmentation fault
    each day at midnight.

Problem conclusion

  • The archive module was updated so that it can be loaded by
    Caching Proxy's new module loading system.

    The fix will be included in IBM Caching Proxy fixpacks:
    - 9.0.0.6
    - 8.5.5.13
    - 8.0.0.14

Temporary fix

  • There are two workarounds to resolve this issue.

    1. Use the old CP module loader system (SUGGESTED)
    The old module loading system can be used by setting the
    following environment variable before starting Caching Proxy:

    CP_USE_LOADANDINIT="true"
    export CP_USE_LOADANDINIT

    2. Disable the log rotation
    Log rotation can be disabled by commenting out the Midnight
    directive in the Caching Proxy config.

    The directive should look like this (after it is commented out):
    #Midnight /usr/lib/archive.so:begin
