APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When a connection is pulled from the pool and the autoCommit
value is changed programmatically, the default value is not
reset on the connection for the next consumer until after
connection validation has occurred. This can cause some odd
statistics to occur for DB access such as a high number of
    rollbacks/aborts during connection validation.

The rollbacks are harmless, but it can be alarming for
customers who are monitoring for such occurrences.

Local fix

  • Moving to a JDBC 4.0 compliant driver or turning off connection
    validation will stop the rollbacks.

When a connection is pulled from the pool and the autoCommit

reset on the connection for the next consumer until after
connection validation has occurred. This can cause some odd
statistics to occur for DB access such as a high number of
rollbacks/aborts during connection validation since the
connections are rolled back if autoCommit is false.
The rollbacks are harmless, but it can be alarming for
customers who are monitoring for such occurrences.

Problem conclusion

  • The code was updated so that the autoCommit value is reset to th
default value before connection validation occurs.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix
