Error description
Slow application deployment caused by removal of temporary deployment directory
Local fix
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: Users of IBM WebSphere Application Server * * versions 6.0 and 6.1 who experience * * excessively long deployment times. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Deploying applications on WebSphere * * Application Server may, in some * * cases, take an extraordinary amount of * * time. The system may appear idle or * * stuck at 100% CPU utilization. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** WebSphere Application Server deploys the contents of a Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) module by first expanding the data to a temporary location. If this extraction process fails, a slower method of reading nested archives is used. Depending on the characteristics of the module(s) and the system itself, this operation may require an unusual amount of time to complete.
Problem conclusion
The problem resolution required a code change to update WebSphere Application Server. This update enables the use of an additional temporary directory location and enables more logging and tracing for future debugging of problems within this functional area. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix packs 6.0.2.25 and 6.1.0.15.
