Error description

Customers may experience various 0C4 and 0C1 ABENDs in the
Control region. An analysis of the SVCDUMP is required to verify
that this is the problem.

The DUMP should show the affected TCB trying to work from an
area that was overlayed with 0s. The overlay of 0s occur
following a IWMWSYSI Control Block.
.
The IWMWSYSI Control Block will begin with the eyecatcher SYSI,
followed by a header, and then a series of X'80' bytes sections
the begin with LPAR names. The 0s appear after the IWMWSYS
Control block.

We only observed this problem in a Node Agent with XD installed.
However, this problem is not limited to XD and Node Agent.

Local fix

Disable PMI to workaround this problem.

Customers may experience various ABEND0C4 and ABEND0C1
in the controller region caused by a problem in the PMI
component of WebSphere Application Server code. The erroneous
PMI code was called by Extended Deployment(XD)at a certain
frequency which eventually led to this ABEND.

Problem conclusion

This problem is resolved by changing the PMI code in such a
way that it will access the allocated memory before
updating it.

APAR PK67454 is currently targeted for inclusion in
Service Level (Fix Pack) 6.1.0.22 of WebSphere
Application Server V6.1 for z/OS.
