Error description

JavaServer Page (JSP) code:

<d:sample test="myValue">
 <jsp:attribute name="action"></jsp:attribute>
</d:sample>
The above code does not produce any errors.
However:
<d:sample test="myValue">
 <jsp:attribute name="action">
  </jsp:attribute>
 </d:sample>

This code produces the following errors:
JSPG0091E: An error occurred at line: 11 in the file: /Test.jsp
JSPG0093E: Generated servlet error from file: /Test.jsp
C:\ibm\websphere\AppServer\profiles\myprofile\temp\myNode\server
1\TestEAR\Test.war_Test.java : 97 : _jspx_temp1 cannot be
resolved
Both "test" and "action" are required attributes.
In the second case the opening and closing tags of the
<jsp:attribute> tag are on different lines.

When a custom tag attribute is specified with the
<jsp:attribute> standard action and the value contains only
whitespace, the JSP fails to compile.
The following error can occur:

An example of the code in the JSP that causes the problem is:

<custom:tag>
 <jsp:attribute name="testAttr">  </jsp:attribute>
</custom:tag>

or

<custom:tag>
 <jsp:attribute name="testAttr">
 </jsp:attribute>
</custom:tag>

Problem conclusion

The JSP Container was modified so that during the translation
phase the variable is declared in the generated Java code when
the value for the <jsp:attribute> is whitespace.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fixpack 6.1.0.21.  Please refer to the Recommended Updates
