APAR status
Closed as program error.
Error description
WebSphere Application Server administrative console preferences are copied from a previous profile to a newly created profile which in turn can cause errors in the administrative console. Depending on the preference that is set and the panel being displayed, the error may manifest itself as a null error message or as an incorrect preference setting when the administrative console is accessed using the new profile. For example, when the administrative console is used to navigate to the Queue connection factories collection panel (Resources -> JMS -> Queue connection factories) and the scope was previously set (using the previous profile) to a scope that does not exist in the new profile, a null error message is displayed at the top of the panel.

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: IBM WebSphere Application Server V7.0 users * * that use the administrative console to * * save user preferences and then * * subsequently create a new profile and * * access the administrative console using * * the new profile. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The administrative console * * preferences are copied from a * * previously accessed profile to a * * newly created profile. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** In the WebSphere Application Server administrative console, user preferences may be set. For example, some of the collection panels have a Scope drop-down list in which the user may select a scope. The user's scope selection is saved as a user preference. The problem occurs when a new profile is created and the administrative console is accessed using the new profile. Any Application Server administrative console preferences that were set when using the original profile will be copied to the new profile's preferences. In other words, the new profile will get a previous profile's preferences and this can cause errors. For example, in the Scope case, a null message may be displayed because the panel on which the scope resides tries to use the scope during initialization and the scope may not even exist in the cell of the new profile.
Problem conclusion
The administrative console was changed so that the preferences are no longer copied from one profile to a newly created profile. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fixpack 7.0.0.1.
