Error description

WebSphere Application Server for z/OS fails when operating as
server-as-client for an outbound Web services request with the
following errors:

CHFW0029E: Error initializing chain chain_0 because of
exception com.ibm.wsspi.channel.framework.exception.Invali
dChannelNameException: Chain cannot be created because of
channel, channel_1_CFINTERNAL_CHILD_0

WSWS3501E: Failures from the Channel Framework service: null
VirtualConnectionFactory

Local fix

If the Web service being called is collocated in the same
server, then turning on optimized in-process connections may
alleviate the problem.  See this InfoCenter page for more

WebSphere fails to create a valid outbound communications chain
to the target server hosting the Web service.  The following
errors may be seen in the servant's joblog:

CHFW0029E: Error initializing chain chain_0 because of
exception com.ibm.wsspi.channel.framework.exception.Invalid
ChannelNameException: Chain cannot be created because of
channel, channel_1_CFINTERNAL_CHILD_0

WSWS3501E: Failures from the Channel Framework service: null
VirtualConnectionFactory .

Problem conclusion

WebSphere Application Server for z/OS has been updated to
correctly generate an outbound chain in order to send the
outbound Web service request.

APAR PK72379 is currently targeted for inclusion in
Service Level (Fix Pack) 7.0.0.1 of WebSphere
Application Server  for z/OS.
