Error description
WebSphere Application Server for z/OS must not accept SSL connections when MutualAuthCBindCheck support is enabled and the client does not provide a client certificate that is mapped to a user that has CONTROL access to the CBIND profile . Therefore, when MutualAuthCBindCheck=true regardless of whether Client Certificate authentication is being used in a SSL connection, MutualAuthCBindCheck should be enforced. . The current (defective) behavior is that MutualAuthCBindCheck is only enforced if Client Certificate Authentication is being used in a SSL connection.

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of WebSphere Application Server * * V6.1.0 for z/OS who are using the web * * container custom property * * MutualAuthCBINDCheck. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: When the web container custom property * * MutualAuthCBINDCheck is set to true, the * behavior is incorrect. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** When the web container custom property MutualAuthCBINDCheck is s to true, the server does not require the client to present a certificate, and CBIND checks are made for all clients, instead just HTTP clients.
Problem conclusion
When the web container custom property MutualAuthCBINDCheck is set to true, an HTTP client will be required to present a certificate to the server. If the client is not coming in over HTTP, then a certificate is not necessarily required and no CBIND checks are made. APAR PK72447 is currently targeted for inclusion in Service Level (Fix Pack) 6.1.0.25 of WebSphere Application Server V6.1 for z/OS.
