Error description

  • When generating a web service using the bottom up approach, if
    there are two dimensional arrays defined in the java bean, the
    tooling will generate a wrong wsdl.

    For example:

    If we have a java beans with two dimension arrays define as
    followed:

    public class Payload implements Serializable {

     private static final long serialVersionUID =
    7099905265023564060L;
     private boolean[][] f1;
     private byte[][] f2;
     private short[][] f3;
     private int[][] f4;
     private long[][] f5;
     private float[][] f6;
     private double[][] f7;
     private String[][] f8;
     private java.util.Date f9;
     private java.util.Calendar[][] f10;
     private java.math.BigInteger[][] f11;
     private java.math.BigDecimal[][] f12;
     private javax.xml.namespace.QName[][] f13;
     private java.net.URI[][] f14;

    The web service engine tooling generate the following wsdl:

       <complexType name="Payload">
        <sequence>
         <element name="f1" nillable="true"
    type="tns2:ArrayOf_impl_nillable_ArrayOf_xsd_boolean"/>
         <element name="f10" nillable="true"
    type="tns2:ArrayOf_impl_nillable_ArrayOf_xsd_nillable_dateTime"/
    >
         <element name="f11" nillable="true"
    type="tns2:ArrayOf_impl_nillable_ArrayOf_xsd_nillable_integer"/>
         <element name="f12" nillable="true"
    type="tns2:ArrayOf_impl_nillable_ArrayOf_xsd_nillable_decimal"/>
         <element name="f13" nillable="true"
    type="tns2:ArrayOf_impl_nillable_ArrayOf_xsd_nillable_QName"/>
         <element name="f14" nillable="true"
    type="tns2:ArrayOf_impl_nillable_ArrayOf_xsd_nillable_anyURI"/>
         <element name="f2" nillable="true"
    type="tns2:ArrayOf_xsd_base64Binary"/>
         <element name="f3" nillable="true"
    type="tns2:ArrayOf_impl_nillable_ArrayOf_xsd_short"/>
         <element name="f4" nillable="true"
    type="tns2:ArrayOf_impl_nillable_ArrayOf_xsd_int"/>
         <element name="f5" nillable="true"
    type="tns2:ArrayOf_impl_nillable_ArrayOf_xsd_long"/>
         <element name="f6" nillable="true"
    type="tns2:ArrayOf_impl_nillable_ArrayOf_xsd_float"/>
         <element name="f7" nillable="true"
    type="tns2:ArrayOf_impl_nillable_ArrayOf_xsd_double"/>
         <element name="f8" nillable="true"
    type="tns2:ArrayOf_impl_nillable_ArrayOf_xsd_nillable_string"/>
         <element name="f9" nillable="true" type="xsd:dateTime"/>
        </sequence>
       </complexType>

    * USERS AFFECTED: All WebSphere Application Server version 6 *

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Incorrect WSDL Generated for 2 *
    *                      Dimensional Array Types                 *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Install a fix pack that includes this APAR. *
    ****************************************************************
    Java2WSDL is generating an invalid Web Services Description
    Language (WSDL) when processing 2 dimensional array types.
    The incorrectly generated WSDL shows the following:

    <complexType
    name="ArrayOf_impl_nillable_ArrayOf_xsd_nillable_string">
        <sequence>
            <element maxOccurs="unbounded" minOccurs="0"
    name="ArrayOf_xsd_nillable_string" nillable="true"
    type="impl:ArrayOf_xsd_nillable_string"/>
        </sequence>
    </complexType>

    The correct WSDL should show:

    <complexType name="ArrayOfArrayOf_xsd_nillable_string">
        <sequence>
            <element maxOccurs="unbounded" minOccurs="0"
    name="ArrayOf_xsd_nillable_string" nillable="true"
    type="impl:ArrayOf_xsd_nillable_string"/>
        </sequence>
    </complexType>
