Error description

To reproduce this problem inside the administrative console for
WebSphere V7.0:

1. In the admin console, go to
SSL certificate and key management > Key stores and certificates
>
CellDefaultTrustStore > Signer certificates > Add signer
certificate

2. type in an alias and file name of the certificate to
be added. Data type is Base64-encoded ASCII data.

Click Apply

3. Error message appears in red at the top of the console:

Unable to initialize, java.io.IOException:
DerInputStreat.getLength():lengthTag=127, too big

4. The same certificate can be added to the
trust store with ikeyman.bat in v7.0 without error.
It can also be added in the administrative console on a v6.1
system without error.

Local fix

Work Around:

1. Open the certificate in a text editor and delete any
characters after the END CERTIFICATE marker.

Or,

2. Use the ikeyman.bat/ikeyman.sh located in <profile_root>/bin
directory to add the certificate to the signer section:

a. Once ikeyman comes up, click "Key Database File"  and "Open"
in the top left corner. Select the file you want and enter the
password.
b. Switch to the "Signer certificates" view in the drop-down
box.
c. Click the "Add" button, browse to your certificate, enter a
label and click OK.

This issue only happens if a certificate contains several
extra characters after the end of certificate marker
"(-----END CERTIFICATE-----)"

There is a Java method CertificateFactory.generateCertificates
in invokeKeyStoreCommand method which throws an IOException if
there is any character after the end of certificate marker.

Problem conclusion

With this fix, the method was replaced by
CertificateFactory.generateCertificate which ignores any
characters after the end of certificate marker.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fixpack 7.0.0.3.  Please refer to the Recommended Updates
