Error description

On WebSphere Application Server 6.1.0.17 running on either Red
Hat Linux 4V6 or RH5.1 it was found that the collector tool
runs much slower than when running the same commands from the
command line. The collector tool completes without errors but
it is much slower than running the same collector script on a
non Linux system.

There was an intermittent performance problem when running the
collector tool on RedHat Linux. It could, however, have
impacted other operating systems as well.  Specifically when
the collector tool was performing certain system commands.

Problem conclusion

Code in the execution of system commands was reviewed and
found to have a potential issue with blocking.  This code was
fixed and our tests and the customer test show it working
quite well.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fixpacks 6.0.2.33, 6.1.0.23 and 7.0.0.1.  Please refer to the
