Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of Java Persistence API (JPA) for * * WebSphere Application Server V7.0 with * * Sybase. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Sybase defaults to silent right * * string truncation if the length of * * the string to be inserted into the * * table is longer than the column * * length. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** Sybase behaves differently from other databases in that it silently truncates the string when its length is longer than the column length. In such case, an exception is expected and the transaction should be rolled back.
Problem conclusion
The fix for this problem is to override Sybase default by setting "set string_rtrucation on" to force Sybase to throw an exception when a right truncation is to occur. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fixpack 7.0.0.1.
