Error description

The Session Intiation Protocol (SIP) container discards a
response message that contains malformed "not mandatory"
header fields.Message (request or response) that contains
invalid or malformed "not mandatory" headers (that are not
necessary for processing, for example, Warning header field)
should be processed by the SIP Container.

When the SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) container receives
a message from the network, it validates the syntax in each
header field value. If the syntax is incorrect, the container
rejects the entire message, instead of passing it up to the
application. A request message is rejected by responding to it
with a 400 "Bad Request". A response message is rejected by
dropping the message.
Some header fields are critical for proper handling of the
message by the container. It is legitimate to reject messages
that contain malformed values in such header fields. However,
the container needs to tolerate headers that are not critical.
The following header types are labeled as critical:
To, From, Contact, Route, Record-Route, P-Asserted-Identity,
P-Preferred-Identity, Path, Call-ID, Content-Length,
Content-Type, CSeq, Max-Forwards, RAck, RSeq, Require,
Supported, Via.

Problem conclusion

The problem is fixed in the SIP (Session Initiation Protocol)
container. With this fix, messages with malformed header
fields are passed up to the application, as long as the
syntax of critical headers, which are present in the message,
is valid.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fixpack 6.1.0.23 and 7.0.0.3.  Please refer to the Recommended
