Error description
WASPostUpgrade results in a NullPointerException when migrating WebSphere Application Server V5.1 with two instances.
Local fix
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of WebSphere Application Server * * V7.0 migrating from WebSphere Application * * Server 5.1 with two instances. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: NullPointerException occurs when * * migrating WebSphere Application * * Server 5.1 with two instances. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** NullPointerException occurs when migrating WebSphere Application Server 5.1 with two instances. We migrated the default profile and did not take into consideration the second instance.
Problem conclusion
1. When you create a second instance, the instance info is saved in wsinstance.config. If you use "inst1" as instance name, the instance name would be "${NODE_NAME}_inst1". 2. During WASPreUpgrade, migration will copy/back up the second instance to ${backup_dir}/profiles/${NODE_NAME}_inst1 3. If you don't sepcify "-oldProfile" option, it will migrate the default instance. 4. To migrate the second instance, you will need to specify "-oldProfile ${NODE_NAME}_inst1" The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fixpack 7.0.0.3.
