PK76503: RACE CONDITION IN JSP RUNTIME COMPILATION LEADING TO BLANK PAGES

Error description

Application users suddenly start getting blank pages.

In the log files you can notice that JavaServer Page (JSP)
file is getting destroyed and an error during loading of the
class file as below:

Problem summary

* PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: A ClassNotFoundException can occur on   *
*                      JSP requests if the JSP files are       *
*                      located in an extended document root.   *

If simultaneous requests for JSP files are received and the
JSP files are located in an extended document root directory, a
ClassNotFoundException can occur.  This can result in blank
pages being returned to the browser.
During the JSP Container's attempt to determine if a requested
JSP file needs to be re-translated a separate request can
access the same section of code.  This can cause the request
for the first JSP file to receive the timestamp of the second
JSP file request.  The result is that the ServletWrapper
object for the first JSP file will be destroyed and
initialized again, which can lead to a ClassNotFoundException.
The problem can occur only if the JSP files are located in an
extended document root directory and the JSP files are
compiled at runtime.

Problem conclusion

The JSP Container was modified to synchronize the block of
code which accesses the extended document root location to
find the JSP file name.  This will prevent multiple requests
from accessing the same block of code and returning incorrect
values.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fixpacks 6.0.2.35, 6.1.0.23, and 7.0.0.5.  Please refer to the
