Error description

  • In WebSphere Application Server for z/OS V7.0, the Error log
    stream record output format changed to accomodate the following
    additional fields:
    "CELL","NODE","CLUSTER"
    .
    To distinguish this new format from the earlier format, the
    "2-digit record version number" should be updated.
    .
    Below is an example of the Error log stream record output
    format in V7.0:
    .
    In WAS7:
    2008/11/19 22:17:46.325 01 SYSTEM=ATZ3013 CELL=BBOCELL
    NODE=BBONODE CLUSTER=BBOC001 SERVER=BBOS001  JobName=BBOS001S
    ASID=0X0053

    line:+886 ... WARNING: Cannot set header. Response already
    committed.
    .
    In WAS 6.1:
    2008/11/18 20:41:49.898 01 SYSTEM=NMP146 SERVER=W611S01
    JobName=W611S01 ASID=0X0045 PID=0X05000145 TID=0000000000

    .
    Note that the fields Cell, Node and Cluster are missing from the
    pre 6.1 example.
    .
    The table below shows a breakdown of all the fields:

    lines 4-5: make_user_exception... CosNaming::Naming...
     Continuation lines: Continuation of the Log Stream log message

Local fix

  • To disable the new fields, you can set the following environment
    variable:
    Name : private_bborlog_include_extra_server_info
    Value: 0
    .
    This can be set using the admin console:
    Environment > WebSphere variables
     - Choose the scope needed, and click New to define the
    variable.
    Save and synchronize changes, and recycle the server.

    ****************************************************************
    New fields were added to the error log stream output record.
    A new variable was added to control the output but no new
    version was created in the record.

Problem conclusion

  • If the expanded version of the record is output the new record
    version is used, if the original version is output the old
    record version is used.
