PK77176: WEBCONTAINER FAILS TO MAP REQUEST PROPERLY, IF THE HOST NAME IN ALIAS HAS FEWER THAN 2 CHARACTERS, LEADING TO 404 ERROR

Error description

WebContainer fails to handle the request in the following
condition:


There are two virtual host in the configuration

First Virtual host(vhost1) with alias of:
sp:80

Second Virtual Host(vhost2) with alias of:
*:80

Application with context root of "/firstApp" is mapped to
vhost1

Application with context root of "/secondApp" is mapped to
vhost2

WebContainer will match the following URL to vhost2 instead of
vhost1:

http://sp/firstApp

This leads to an error like this:

SRVE0255E: A WebGroup/Virtual Host to handle /firstApp/index.jsp
has not been defined.
SRVE0255E: A WebGroup/Virtual Host to handle sp:80 has not been
defined.

This issue will occur if the hostname contains either one or 2
characters.

The WebContainer maintains a table of mappings of virtual host
definitions to applications, and uses these mappings to route
inbound requests to applications. All mappings which match an
inbound request are determined and the one with the largest
number of matching characters is selected as the best match.

However a host name of "*" is internally represented in a
manner which appears as a string of length 2. As a result, a
mapping with a host name of "*" can be preferred to a mapping
with a single or two character host name, even when the single
or two character host name provides a mapping which is an
exact match with the inbound request.

Problem conclusion

The WebContainer has been updated to always use an exact match
from the virtual host mappings table when one is found. For
example, this makes an inbound request specifying a host name
and port values of "a:9080" to always be mapped to a mapping
of "a:9080" instead of "*:9080"

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fixpacks 6.1.0.25 and 7.0.0.5.  Please refer to the Recommended
