APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • This problem affects all operating systems. When using web
services with the Feature Pack for SCA, a connection that gets
a 500 response code will not be reset correctly, resulting in
eventual depletion of all available HTTP connections. At this
point the server must be restarted before it can function again.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Web Service Binding requests *
    * receiving HTTP 500 response codes do *
    * not properly return their HTTP *

    * resulting in transport timeouts *
    * waiting for an HTTP connection. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
When service requests over the Web Service Binding receive an
HTTP 500 response code the HTTP connections are not properly
detached making them unable to be returned to the connection
pool. This results in depletion of the HTTP connection pool
resulting in transport timeouts waiting for an available HTTP
connection. This condition can only be resolved by recycling
    the server process.

Problem conclusion

  • Add code in exception handling to detach the input stream
allowing the HTTP connection to be returned to the connection
    pool and reused.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fixpack 1.0.0.1 of SCA Feature Pack on WebSphere
Application Server V7.0. Please refer to the Recommended
