PK77443: -1 AND 0 BOTH HAVE THE SAME EFFECT FOR BOTH TIMEOUTS

Error description

-1 and 0 both have the same effect for both timeouts.

For connectTimeout, the check in the code is for > 0 so 0 or
less acts
as blocking.

For serverioTimeout, the value is expected to be 0 or greater.
WHen the
value of -1 is read, it is converted to a unsigned value (very
high)
which has the same effect as setting it to 0 (blocking).

If you try to enter -1 as the value (pre-fix), console will not
accept
because negatives were not valid values...however, in the admin
default
actions, when the checkbox is not selected the value is set to
-1.

We need an apar opened to correct this (should be 0 when not
selected).

When the "use read/write timeout" checkbox is disabled, the
server IO timeout value is shown as 0 on the console but saved
to the configuration file as -1.

Problem conclusion

Code was corrected to save value to the configuration file as
0 (disabled, timeout when OS times out) instead of -1.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fixpack 6.1.0.23 and 7.0.0.5  Please refer to the Recommended
