Error description

  • User test scenario:
In order to get the information of average response time and CB
transaction rate, a Service Class for CB (WAS enclave) was set
    up named as 'CBFAST'.
After generating some workload, there was something wrong in RMF
    Workload Activity Report.
    Here's the testcase scenario:

      - Service Class for WAS : CBFAST
      - LPAR configuration
           SAM1 LPAR : 6 GCPs and 6 zAAPs
           SAM2 LPAR : 6 GCPs and 6 zAAPs
      - Bring up one WAS instance per LPAR (totally 2 instances in 2
    LPARs)
           SLSRV1A server on SAM1
           SLSRV1B server on SAM2
      - In workload generator side,
1 virtual user per WAS server
Set up totally 2 virtual users
      - Generate workload of 10 minitues

Concluded that the RMF workload report and the following is seen
in workload activity report of 'SERVICE CLASS=CBFAST'

       -TRANSACTIONS- TRANS-TIME HHH.MM.SS.TTT
       AVG 1.73 ACTUAL 622
       MPL 1.73 EXECUTION 11
       ENDED 93939 QUEUED 611
       END/S 156.57 R/S AFFIN 0
       #SWAPS 0 INELIGIBLE 0
       EXCTD 0 CONVERSION 0
AVG ENC 1.73 STD DEV 351
       REM ENC 0.00
       MS ENC 0.00

From the workload generator side (WAS client), the performance
    output below was seen:

    [08/12/28 10:34:50] Total Tps=154
                        [jg44:avg=14ms,tps=14]
                        [jg45:avg=6ms,tps=56]
                        [jn01:avg=16ms,tps=84]

As you can see above both reports,
the TPS (Transaction per second) seems to be correct.
END/S (RMF) 156.57 (from both LPAR)
           Total Tps (Workload Generator) 154

But, there is some mismatch in the response time:
In workload generator side, the average response time is
           (14ms * 14) + (6ms * 56) + (16ms * 84) / (14+56+84)
         = (196 + 336 + 1344) / 154 = 12.19ms

But, RMF report of TRANS-TIME said ACTUAL is 622ms
                                   and EXECUTION is 11 ms
                                   and QUEUED is 611 ms

When WLM statistics are generated the time stamp saved is not
correct. The way this value was calculated ended up not being
saved in the state map and propagated down to the native code
    level.

Problem conclusion

  • The value saved in the state map is updated and passed into
    the WLM statistics correctly.

APAR PK78133 is currently targeted for inclusion in
