PK78568: WEBSPHERE APPLICATION SERVER V7 ADMINISTRATION CONSOLE HAS NULL AND NULLPOINTEREXCEPTION ON MIGRATED SSL CONFIGURATION PANEL

Error description

This is an error that occurs only on migrated  WebSphere
Application Server nodes.  The versions effected
are versions between 5.1.x and 6.0.x  To see
the error you must have SSL configurations that were migrated
to WebSphere Application Server version 7.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Using the administration console on the migrated node,
navigate to "Security > SSL certificate and key management >
Manage endpoint security configurations". This displays the
Local Topology view.
2. Select the top level link in the Outbound section of the
Topology view, such as Your_Nodename(CellDefaultSSLSettings)
3. On the next panel, select the SSL configurations link under
Related Items
4. The following SSL configuration table will display SSL
configurations such as:
 CellDefaultSSLSettings
 DmgrV511xToV7/DefaultSSLSettings (cell):null
 Node511xtoV7/DefaultSSLSettings  (cell):null
 Node602xToV7/DefaultSSLSettings  (cell):null

Only the top one (CellDefaultSSLSettings) from the version 7
node will work. Notice "null" displayed after what should be
the cell name on the other configurations. The migrated nodes'
SSL settings will have the following errors.

1. Select DmgrV511xToV7/DefaultSSLSettings ( which is the SSL
configuration used in the prior version of the cell ), and
click "Update Certificate  alias list". Notice there are
no new entries seen in the pulldown list "Certificate alias in
key store"

2. If the"Manage Certificates" button is clicked, the
following exception
javax.servlet.ServletException: java.lang.NullPointerException
is displayed on the administrtion console.

3. Ignore the above error and click the Apply button, a red
"null" message appears at the top of the administration panel.

When SSL configurations are migrated and are not updated to
the current format during migration, the configuration file
entries do not contain a managementScope. This causes the
console to have a nullPointer.

Problem conclusion

To prevent the NullPtrException, a check was added for the
managementScope existing. Also, in the endpoint configuration
panel, any SSL configurations that do not have a
managementScope were removed from the selection list as they
are not valid for selection in this panel.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fixpack 7.0.0.3.  Please refer to the Recommended Updates
