PK78623: FFDC ATTEMPTS TO WRITE LOGS TO FFDC DIRECTORY UNDER (WSGUEST) UNAUTHENTICATED ID WHEN CONNECTION MANAGER RUNAS IS ENABLED

Error description

FFDC may attempt to access/write the FFDC directory and logs
with the unauthenticated identity of WSGUEST under the
following conditions.

-Exception occurs in connector code
 (ie. SQLException, ResourceAllocationException)
-Connection manager RunAs thread identity is enabled in
 the application server
-Application environment entry SyncToOSThread is set to
 True in the web.xml or ejb-jar.xml

The following RACF error messages may be seen failing to to open
the FFDC directory under the WSGUEST ID.

Even when SyncToOSThread is set to true, WebSphere
Application Server changes thread identity to system identity
when an operation requires system authority such as writing to
an FFDC log.  However when "Enable the Connection Manager
RunAs thread identity" is checked, the identity switch did not
work as expected and caused the error.

Problem conclusion

Code is updated to switch identity appropriately when both
SyncToOSThread and "Enable the Connection Manager RunAs thread
identity" are turned on.

APAR PK78623 is currently targeted for inclusion in Service
Level (Fix Pack) 6.1.0.25 of WebSphere Application Server V6.1
for z/OS.
