Error description

In JAX-WS, the web service message is rendered in many
different representations (i.e. SAAJ, JAXB).  During the
JAX-WS engine processing, the message is transformed into
these different representations.  These transformations are
time consuming.  This APAR changes the flow in the engine to
ensure that unnecessary transformations do not occur.

During the JAX-WS processing, the web service message is
rendered in many different representations.

Here is an example flow through the JAX-WS web services
runtime:

   1) In the client proxy, the message may be rendered as
JAX-B objects.
   2) Within an outbound handler, the message is
transformed from JAXB objects into objects that comply with
the SAAJ specification.
   3) Finally the message is sent to the
remote web service, the objects are transformed into an
OutputStream.

Each of these transformations is time consuming.

The WebSphere Process Server team identified a flow in the
JAX-WS runtime where an unnecessary transformation was being
performed.

Problem conclusion

The unnecessary transformation is removed.  This fix will
improve the performance for users of SCA (which is
used by WebSphere Process Server and WebSphere Enterprise
Service Bus).  This fix may improve performance for other
users of JAX-WS Web Services.

APAR PK96830 fixes this problem for the WebSphere Application
Server Feature V7.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fixpack 6.1.0.25.  Please refer to the Recommended Updates
