Error description

If you have an application (ear file) which relies on the open
source "Jaxen" library such as v1.1.1, you might get the
following exception if you deploy the application to WebSphere
Application Server V7.0 with the default "parent first"
classloader setting:

org.jaxen.JaxenHandle does not implement the requested interface
org.jaxen.saxpath.XPathHandler     at
org.jaxen.saxpath.base.XPathReader.parse(XPathReader.java:98)

If you configure the "parent last" classloader setting then
everything works fine.  This problem does not occur in WebSphere
Application Server V6.

Local fix

Configure the "parent last" classloader setting for the
application.

If a web services application has a dependency on the open
source JAXEN library and configures the "parent first"
classloader setting, an INCOMPATIBLECLASSCHANGEERROR exception
occurs.

Problem conclusion

The packaging of the org.jaxen package was exported as a "ibm
internal" package.  This will make the package visible to IBM
stack products but hide it from the user's application.  Thus
the user's application will not be contaminated with the Jaxen
package shipped with the WebSphere Application Server.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix pack 7.0.0.5.  Please refer to the Recommended Updates
