Error description
While using the Feature Pack for EJB 3.0 with JPA entities, the JPA framework is logging a java.net.MalformedURLException in FFDC log files. This occurs for a uniquely defined persistence.xml file. Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM? WebSphere? Application * * Server V6.1.0 Feature Pack for Enterprise * * JavaBeans 3.0 and V7.0.0 who make use of * * JPA entites. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: A java.net.MalformedURLException is * * logged in FFDC when using JPA * * entities in an application. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** A java.net.MalformedURLException is logged in FFDC logs, and FFDC only, during application startup processing when JPA Entity beans that are contained in an enterprise beans jar file that includes other types of enterprise beans (Session, MDB, etc.) and when the jar file containing these JPA entity beans is indicated in the persistence.xml for a Persistence Unit via the <jar-file> xml stanza. For example: <jar-file>../jar1.jar</jar-file> The application containing this Persistence Unit will continue to start, but the JPA Entities will not be accessible.
Problem conclusion
With this fix, code has been added to ensure that the correct path is found when one module's persistence.xml files points to another module which contains JPA entities. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in Feature Pack for Enterprise JavaBeans 3.0 Fix Pack 27 (6.1.0.27) and Fix Pack 7.0.0.5 of WebSphere Application Server versions 6.1.0 and 7.0.0.
