Error description

MessageBackoutCount is not incremented in a situation where the
onMessage() method of the MDB fails for each message.

MessageCount increments, but MessageBackoutCount does not.

You'll  see the MessageCount metric has increased but the
MessageBackoutCount is still 0.

*                      global transaction is not incremented   *
*                      if an exception is thrown that causes   *
*                      the message to be returned to the       *
*                      queue.                                  *

* RECOMMENDATION:                                              *

The listener port only contained code to increment the
MessageBackoutCount statistic if a container-managed global
transaction existed, and was rolled back.

In cases where a bean-managed transaction context was used, or
a container-managed context with transaction not-supported,
the message might still be rolled back onto the queue.
However, the MessageBackoutCount was not incremented in these
cases.

Problem conclusion

The fix for this APAR increments the statistic in cases where
an exception is thrown by an MDB that the listener port would
expect to cause the message to be rolled back on the queue.

The statistic cannot be assured to reflect the actual operation
performed by the messaging provider code in all cases, as the
return of the message onto the queue is controlled by the
messaging provider code (not the listener port).

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix pack 6.1.0.27 and 7.0.0.7.  Please refer to the Recommended
